The submarine type IXc
The German submarines of type IXc were ocean-going long-range boats of the German navy. 54 boats of this type were built in 1939 - 1942. Displacement was 1250 t, range was 13450 nmi surfaced at 10 knots, submerged 63 nmi at 4 knots. Maximum speed was 18 knots surfaced and 7.7 knots submerged. The crew were about 50 men.
The boats mainly operated in North Atlantic to interrupt shipping of the Allied Forces.
