The ship type tartane

The tartane is a type of vessel that had been developed in 18th century on the French Mediterranean coast. This model of a 1810 tartane with a small square yard sail and raffee topsails above the lateen main sail is made according to a drawing of J. J. Baugean. The drawing shows a tartane towing her boat, which is loaded with hay (see literature list: John Harland, Ships & Seamanship, The Maritime Prints of J J Baugean, Chatham Publishing, London 2000, ISBN 1 86176 143 0, - plate 69).
