The Nordland boat

The Nordland boat (or Norwegian: Nordlandsbåt) is a type of fishing boat that has been used for centuries in northern counties of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark of Norway and derives its name from Nordland county where it has a long history. It has dominated the Lofoten and Vesterålen islands fishing industry for centuries and is closely related to the old Viking longships (taken from an article about the Nordland boat in Wikipedia).

The history and construction details of the traditional Norwegian boats are given in the book of Bernhard and Øystein Færøyvik, edited by Arne Emil Christensen, "Inshore Craft of Norway", Grøndahl & Søn Forlag A.S., Oslo 1979, ISBN 82 504 0373 8 .

Hull length: 11.60 m

Depth of hull: 0.86 m

The Nordland boat model, photos, description and dimensions

The model was built to plans of a "Fembøring" (ten-oared boat) from Rana, Nordland, Norway. The boat was built in 1847 and used in Lofoten fishing and for cod fishing off Finnmark until 1899. The plans of that boat were published in the book of Bernhard and Øystein Færøyvik (see above).

This model was built by Jan van den Heuvel, Philippine, Netherlands, in the years 2011 - 2013 with great care of details. It was built in all of the timberwork like a real ship. The model is a true masterpiece.

The model is 1 : 10 scale. Length over all is 124 cm, width is 30 cm, height is 98 cm (model stand included).
The ship can be taken out of the stand, e.g. for transport.

There are several views of the entire ship model taken from all directions, and several closer views of hull and rigging.
