The Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo

The Norwegian Maritime Museum (Norsk Maritimt Museum is located on Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. It can be easily accessed by bus or, much more fun, by ferry boat from the city center. On Bygdøy there are several other museums, too, all within walking distance in nice surroundings.

The museum focuses on traditional boats from around the Norwegian coast and shipbuilding history. When we visited the museum in July 2019 many pieces were kept behind a poor glass with high reflection. It was very difficult to get a clear view or take a picture, but I show some exhibits.

There is more information on the museum website.

We found a fine model of the warship Sophia Amalia of 1651, 1 : 48 scale. There is a similar model in 1 : 30 scale in the Orlogsmuseet Copenhagen.

I liked to photo of the training ship Statsraad Erichsen of 1859 and the model of the sloop Restauration of 1801.
