HMS DIANA, a typical English frigate
HMS DIANA was a typical British frigate to be used in Admiral Nelson's time and thereafter. She was launched in 1794. She was one of 38-cannons-frigates, of which eight were built in total. She was a versatile ship and used by the British in many ways during the Napoleonic Wars.
In 1815 she was sold to the Dutch navy. On 27 August 1816 she was one of six Dutch frigates that participated in the bombardment of Algiers. By an accident she was destroyed in dry-dock on 16 January 1839 after 45 eventful years in operation.
The HMS DIANA model, photos, description and dimensions
This ship model is a very fine piece of work. Rigging and hull are in many details accurately implemented. The 18-pounder and 9-pounder cannons are faithfully scaled. The elegant form of the original hull construction is clearly visible in the model. About 1500 copper plates were attached below the waterline. The ship model was built without sails to allow for a better view on the very detailed, impressive rigging.
Please take your time to have a good look at the set of photos. There are several views of the entire ship model taken from all directions, and several closer views of hull, deck and rigging.
The ship model is 1 : 64 scale. Length is 122 cm, width
