The Lemster aak "De Groene Draeck" of 1957

The Lemster aak was a fishing ship of the Zuyder Zee and named after the place of its origin, Lemmer. This type was first built in the second half of the 19th century in the shipyard of De Boer at Lemmer. It is a round shaped vessel, with a bow that is higher and sharper than that of tjalk. The high bow makes it suitable for work as a fishing ship in large waters. The Lemster aak became especially famous when in 1957 a yacht of this type, named De Groene Draeck, was built for princess Beatrix.
