The Hoogaars type of ship was built in shipyards of Arnemuiden and other
places in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands. They went out to
fish mainly for shrimps in the river Scheldt estuary.
Full building plans, instructions and scantlings for a Hoogaars can be found in the book “DE HOOGAARS en de visserij van ARNEMUIDEN” by Jules Van Beylen, Hedeby Publishing, Leeuwarden, 1993, ISBN 90-74541-03-8 and in many other publications.
The model was built by a very experienced model maker. There are more pictures, several views of the entire ship model taken from all directions, and several closer views of hull, deck and rigging. Click images to enlarge!
This model of the Hoogaars is a precise and detailed work, a masterpiece.
The sails are set like close to the wind on starboard tack. The
peculiar lines of the fishing vessel are clearly shown. The sails and hull are expertly presented.
The ship model is 1 :
32 scale. Length is
52 cm,
width 21 cm, height 41 cm.
There is a display case for the model made of birch wood and (rather poor, high reflection) acrylic glass which may be used as protection when picking up the model with your car. The display case will not be shipped on air cargo. The case is 59 cm long, 27 cm wide, 44 cm high.
The model looks best when set without a display case.
The price of the model is 1500 Euro, plus transport cost.
Transport: The ship model can be secured in a transport box. This way,
delivery by
truck or air cargo over long distances can be safely done.
If you live
close by, picking up the model with your car may be a good way, too.
