Whaleboats were put in the water by the large whale ships. They closed in on the fish by sail and oar to throw the harpoon.  The boats are relatively narrow and pointed at both ends, enabling them to be moved either forwards or backwards equally well.

Please take your time to have a good look at the set of photos. There are several views of the entire ship model taken from all directions, and several closer views of hull, deck and rigging.  If you click on a photo you will get that photo in high resolution. Only these high resolution photographs show how much work and handicraft ability were put in the model.

With the ship models goes a purpose-built display case, made of mahogany.

The high resolution photos are about 12 megapixel. So they are about 10 - 20  times larger than your 0.5 - 1.3 megapixel computer screen. This model of a whaleboat is a small elegant masterpiece, built by a very experienced ship modeller.

Shipping the whaleboat model in a crate by some package delivery company can be done. Picking up the ship with your car may be a good way, too.
