Sailing ship model - SAN FELIPE of 1690

Ship model of Spanish SAN FELIPE of 1690

San Felipe and her historical background

The SAN FELIPE is a favourite ship among the ship model builders. The model is elegant, very beautifully designed, and makes a decorative piece of art to be displayed at home or in the office.
However,
a Spanish three-decker with the name “San Felipe” most probably did not exist in 1690. The San Felipe models show construction elements of hull and rigging of Spanish ships of the line around 1700. But the question remains: Why don’t the kit makers refer to a ship of that time that did exist and has been described in detail? If you are interested in more details, look at this page about San Felipe authenticity.

The model ship SAN FELIPE, photos and dimensions

Please take your time to have a good look at the set of photos. There are several pictures of the model (14 photos with in total 740 kB). If you click on a photo you will get that photo in high resolution. Only these high resolution photographs show how much work and handicraft ability were put in the model. (If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, press F11 to minimize navigation bars and have a larger screen with the photos.)

This ship model emphasizes the rigging and the handling of the sails. One can easily imagine the wind blowing. The ship model could well make for a good decoration in a sailing club or be a symbol of Spanish shipbuilding and sailor abilities in the 1690s.

The ship model is 1 : 75 scale. Length is 96 cm, width 43 cm, height 83 cm.

This model has been already sold. The pictures and the data are shown in the gallery of the ship models sold only to let enthusiasts and model makers enjoy the photos and maybe get ideas or some guidance, if someone builds such a model by himself.

This model is one of the eight ship models we delivered to the  Morada Seaside Resort at Kuehlungsborn near Rostock on the Baltic coast. It is a beautiful hotel directly at the Baltic Sea beach, and our models are on display in the passage to the restaurant.
