Ship model Spanish bomb ketch- La Candelaria of 1782

Ship model Spanish bomb ketch LA CANDELARIA of 1782

The Spanish bomb ketch LA CANDELARIA participated in the siege of Gibraltar in 1782. Bomb ketches were difficult to sail, as there were two large mortars on the foredeck in place of the fore-mast. To withstand the recoil of the cannons with their heavy projectiles, the bomb ketches had to have a massive and firm hull.

This ship model is worked very beautifully and with much love for the details. It shows clearly the heavy mortars in the foredeck, the rigging adapted to them and the firm framing of the hull. The LA CANDELARIA would have been well suitable for an exhibition on the development of the artillery.
Here are several pictures of the model (16 photos with in total 650 kB). If you click on a photo you will get that photo in high resolution. (If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox, press F11 to minimize navigation bars and have a larger screen with the photos.)

The ship model is 1 : 66 scale. Length is 88 cm, width 34 cm, height 67 cm.

This ship model is one of the eight ship models we delivered to the Morada Seaside Resort at Kuehlungsborn near Rostock on the Baltic coast. It is a beautiful hotel directly at the Baltic Sea beach, and our models are on display in the passage to the restaurant.
