New York pilot boat PHANTOM - a historic boat model

Ship model  pilot boat PHANTOM

The New York pilot boat PHANTOM was built 1868 in East Boston. Till the beginning of the 20th century schooners like this were used in active service. The ship model is made with the US flag of these years (48 stars) and the pilot boat flag H at the foremast. In David R MacGregor's book, "The Schooner, Its Design and Development from 1600 to the Present" (see literature and links) a sail plan of the PHANTOM and rigging details are given on page 166.

Please take your time to have a good look at the set of photos of the boat model. There are several views of the entire model and of details. If you click on a photo you will get that photo in high resolution. Only these high resolution photographs show how much work and handicraft ability were put in the model.
