 Restauration Elfriede.jpg (27032 Byte)

Historic ship models and restorations

Juergen Oltmann, Schulweg 9,  D-28790 Schwanewede, Germany,   Tel. +49 421 62 48 22, maritime-kunstobjekte@web.de.

Mr. Oltmann has learned much about the huge variety of different model types by many years of restoration of ship models and yacht models. There were very old half-hulls as well as historic static display models and those made of glas fiber reinforced polyester. Pond yachts needed repairs, and so did cogs, caravels and full-rigged ships of the great times of sail. Since the mid 1800s people made dioramas with models in harbour surroundings or at sea.

He worked for ship yards and shipping companies, when their representative models got damaged on transport, or needed some new painting or when the cargo had to be changed due to a new charterer.

A price estimate can be given after judging on the damages or the alterations required. The work time will be priced by 30 Euro per hour, plus materials.

The two photos show the restoration of the navy training ship "Danmark", before and after work:
