Ship model schooner L'ÉTOILE
Scale 1 : 50, length 76 cm, width 15 cm, height 65 cm,
Price 900 Euro, plus transport cost
History of the schooner
The schooner L'ÉTOILE and her sister ship Belle Poule were built in the
shipyard of Fécamp, France in 1932. They served as cod fishing vessels
off the coast of Iceland until 1938. The season was approximately seven
months. During this time the ships mostly operated in depression area
with heavy weather. They were built accordingly, stout and sturdy, and
for that reason were selected later on as navy training ships. Today
French navy officers get their education on them.
The ships have an auxiliary engine of 125 HP, allowing to operate at any
weather and tide. The L'ÉTOILE and Belle Poule are always welcomed with
national and international boat races and are frequently
photographed there.
Technical data: overall length 38 m, width 7.10 m, displacement 214
tons, draught 2.10 m, speed 6 knots, total sail area 425 m².
