Ship model - Chinese junk

Ship model  1840 Chinese junk

This model of a 1840 Chinese junk would make a nice decoration in a Chinese restaurant or some other business or agency with links to China.
Junks have been long since a well known symbol of Chinese maritime transport and trade. For many centuries they roamed across
rivers and oceans of the Far East, from Singapore to Northern China. They carried food and wood and were often equipped with cannons.
The flags shown on this ship model are small replicas of the dragon flag that was taken from a junk during the opium war 1839 - 1842.

Please take your time to have a good look at the set of photos of the junk model. There are several views of the entire model and of details (10 photos with 400 kB in total). If you click on a photo you will get that photo in high resolution. Only these high resolution photographs show how much work and handicraft ability were put in the model. (If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, press F11 to minimize navigation bars and have a larger screen with the photos.)

The very nice model of the junk is 1 : 60 scale. Length is 48 cm, width 16 cm, height 45 cm.
